What This Is

The Visitor’s News is a small printed publication made of letters. Each issue collects plain, unhurried dispatches from people writing about the place where they live: the weather, what is growing, who has been to see whom, what happened at the church supper, what the creek is doing. It is modeled on the scribe letters of the old country papers, where a neighbor in each community reported the news of the neighborhood.

It is not a magazine and it is not a platform. There are no photographs, no advertisements, and nothing about state or national affairs. Letters stay at the scale of the county or smaller, and they are printed as written, with the lightest editing. The place can be a farm, a small town, or a block in a city; everyone has a home ground to write from.

It is made by one person in Bedford, Indiana, in eight-page issues, printed in black ink and mailed to those who ask for it.
